With the introduction of electronic or scanning checkout systems tremendous possibilities exist for the generation of data and the use of such data at all levels of man-agerial decision-making. The hardware and software needed to generate data valuable for managerial decision-making are currently available and retail food distribution organiza-tions have the capacity to generate such data.
